“God-with-us”
There are times in our lives that fear comes upon us.
No matter what the circumstances, fear is fear, however it comes to us.
Fear paralyzes us – it’s extremely powerful. If it stays around long enough it can drive us to despair.
In the Gospel Mk 4:35-41, Jesus is there with the Apostles to calm the storm.
We know that Jesus doesn’t calm every storm. The point is not Jesus as miracle worker, but Jesus as always being with us. When Jesus is our companion on the journey, we know we are not alone in our storms. The promise is that Jesus will not leave us alone – it doesn’t take away the storms or calm every storm. It means we have a companion, a comforter, a presence with us in every storm of our lives.
That in itself calms us.
