2025 Holy Week Letter from Our Prioress, Sister Catherine Nehotte, OSB
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we approach Holy Week, our hearts are drawn into the profound mystery of our salvation. The journey of Lent, with its call to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, has prepared us to enter more deeply into the Passion, death, and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This sacred week is the pinnacle of our liturgical year. It is a time when we walk with Jesus through the streets of Jerusalem, witnessing His triumphant entry on Palm Sunday, His washing of the disciples’ feet on Holy Thursday, His agonizing suffering and death on Good Friday, and finally, His glorious Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
The readings and liturgies of Holy Week invite us to reflect on the immense love of God, a love so great that God sent the only begotten Son to redeem us from sin and death. We are reminded of the fragility of human life, the power of sacrifice, and the unwavering hope that springs from the empty tomb.
This year, our community enters Holy Week with heavy hearts, as we have recently experienced the loss of three beloved Sisters, who have gone home to God. Their passing has left a void in our midst, a reminder of the transient nature of our earthly existence. Yet, even in our grief, we find solace in the promise of eternal life, a promise made possible through Christ’s victory over death.

The pain of loss is real, and we have leaned on each other, and on the strength of our faith, to navigate these difficult times. Just as the disciples mourned the death of Jesus, we too mourn the loss of our Sisters. But just as the disciples were filled with joy at the Resurrection, we too hold onto the hope of reunion in the Kingdom of Heaven.
During Holy Week, let us remember the suffering of Christ, and let us also remember the suffering of those who mourn. Let us pray for our Sisters who have gone before us, for their families, and for all who are grieving. May the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds.
Let us embrace the Paschal Mystery with open hearts, allowing the transformative power of Christ’s love to renew us and strengthen us. May the light of the Resurrection shine brightly in our lives, dispelling the darkness of sorrow and fear.
May this Holy Week be a time of deep reflection, profound prayer, and renewed hope for each of you.
In Christ’s love,
Sister Catherine Nehotte, OSB
