Celebrating September Birthdays at St. Paul’s Monastery

This September, we join in celebrating the birthdays of three individuals. Two have made significant contributions to the life of our community. The last, we are getting to know and looking forward to a long relationship.

Archbishop Bernard Hebda, whose birthday falls on September 3, is a close friend of the Sisters of St. Paul’s Monastery. After a rich and varied priestly journey that included studies in Rome and service in various capacities, Archbishop Hebda became the shepherd of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in 2016. We are grateful for his leadership and spiritual guidance.

Abbot Doug Mullin, OSB

Sister Mary Lou Dummer, OSB, celebrates her birthday on September 21. Known for her energetic spirit and lifelong commitment to service, Sister Mary Lou has embraced a multitude of roles throughout her monastic vocation from educator to sub-prioress. Her dedication has been the Oblate program. She has recently stepped away from this role (It took three individuals to take over her own work of one). We continue to be inspired by her service and wisdom.

Abbot Douglas Mullin, OSB, recently elected Abbot of Saint John’s Abbey in January of this year. Born in 1954, Abbot Douglas joined the monastic community in 1979 and was ordained a priest in 2007. His extensive background in education and leadership has prepared him well for his new role as Abbot, where he guides a community of 98 monks and oversees the Abbey’s many ministries. We offer our congratulations to Abbot Douglas and pray for his continued success.

As we celebrate these September birthdays, we give thanks for the dedication and service of these individuals who have enriched the lives of so many.
