The scripture reading from the Old Testament this week is from a familiar story of Jonah and his journey to Nin’eveh. “Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, ‘Arise, go to Nin′eveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.’ So Jonah arose and went to Nin′eveh, according to the word of the LORD” (Jonah 3: 1-3, RSVCE).

Jonah made his journey only after a long adventure in which he originally turned away from the desire of the Lord, a journey that included some time in the belly of a whale. He, like the Nin’evites, ultimately turned “from his evil way and from the violence which is in his hands” (3:8).

At one time or another, all of us have a journey similar to Jonah’s. How are you listening to the call of God in your life? What is your journey?
