Looking Back
Where did the time go? First, we waited forever for warm weather: perennial flowers to bloom, green grass, lazy days of summer. Now, it is trying to go on, forward into another season.
The flies and bees are just waiting to squeeze through an open door, and the humidity is climbing. The kids are driving their parents crazy with, “…there is nothing to do”.
Fortunately, I don’t have that problem any longer.
The dew on the grass, the leaves on the trees start to dry out, and the signal of changes aims toward the next season.
Minnesota is noted for the beauty of the four seasons. I do enjoy each one but bask in the warmth of summer.
When I was growing up in Iowa, August was an okay month for me. All the fuirt on our trees had been picked and canned by my mother as well as our garden of many vegetables. My life was free of helping so much and I had free time to lay my blanket and library books down under one of the trees in our yard and read. I could spend many hours of fantasizing to different lands and friends aplenty. The month was too short. The insects flying past my nose and the drying leaves falling on my head did not bother me. I loved August.
Now I think past this last month forgetting how wonderful it used to be as I thought of chilly months ahead and then, “you know what…” Pleeese! Not that. Snow, ice, bitter wind, and how I dread it all.
Please take me with you to a warmer climate, children. I will behave. I will sit and crochet and keep my mouth shut when I know I am right.
Oh well. God has allowed me a long life full of so much joy. I can at least be thankful for his everlasting Grace.
