Feast of St. Scholastica 2022

The Sisters of St. Benedict of St. Paul's Monastery invite you to celebrate with us this February 10, 2022. This date is of special consequence to us and all Benedictines, as it is St. Scholastica's feast day. St. Scholastica was the twin sister of St. Benedict.

Together the two are considered the foundress and founder of the Benedictine Order. This year her feast day holds particular significance, as we also celebrate the 13th Anniversary of our move into the St. Paul's Monastery Benet Road location.

The Sisters of St. Benedict of St. Paul’s Monastery established the St. Scholastica Honor in 2018, the year of our 70th Anniversary. This honor celebrates the virtues of St. Scholastica and is presented to someone exhibiting the qualities and dedication to the Benedictine way of life in support of St. Paul’s Monastery.

We are honored to announce that this year’s St. Scholastica Award recipient is Pat Swanke. Pat has volunteered her time and talents at St. Paul’s Monastery for 14 years, first assisting Sister Agnes Trombley with the library organization project prior to the move to the new Monastery in 2009. In addition, since 2012, Pat has served as Chair of the Benedictine Associates Program, where single Catholic women receive formation classes in Benedictine spirituality and make a formal commitment to support the Monastery is various ways, such as prayer, hospitality, serving as lector or sacristan in the chapel, and visiting Sisters in the Health Care Center.

We invite you to join us on Facebook on February 10 at 4:30 p.m. for the live streaming of the St. Scholastica Honoree presentation to Pat Swanke. A recording of this live stream will also be published on our YouTube page following the presentation.

13th Anniversary at Benet Road

This year’s Feast of St. Scholastica also marks the 13th anniversary of our move from our previous Larpenteur location to our current monastery at 2675 Benet Road. We will be sharing Sisters’ memories and reflections on this important anniversary on Facebook, Instagram, and in our upcoming March e-Newsletter.

Since our move 13 years ago, the Sisters of St. Benedict have continued our long-standing ministries of prayer, hospitality, and promotion of Benedictine spirituality at St. Paul's Monastery. In addition, many of our Benedictine Associates and Oblates bring Benedictine spirituality to their personal ministries, outside of the Monastery, in education, parishes, social justice, and local non-profits.

Your donation in honor of St. Scholastica and this important anniversary will not only support our Community, but also the continuation of these vital ministries. As the Benedictine Sisters of St. Paul's Monastery, we share in the joys and sufferings of this world—responding with service and advocacy while welcoming all as Christ. Our ministry began in 1948 and has continued at our current location for the past 12 years—help us continue for many years to come!
