OUR MISSION

We, the Sisters of St. Paul’s Monastery, are a community who live Gospel values as expressed in the Rule of St. Benedict.  Through our monastic life and wise stewardship, we nurture contemplative presence in service of Church and society.

Our Vision

We, the Sisters of St. Paul’s Monastery, are a community who live Gospel values as expressed in the Rule of St. Benedict. Through our monastic life and wise stewardship, we nurture contemplative presence in service of Church and society.

Core Value Statements:

Community: We are committed to one another as we live the monastic way of life according to the Rule of St. Benedict, integrating and incorporating the gifts we all bring to monastic life.

Prayer: We are committed to monastic prayer, both communal and personal.

Hospitality: We are committed to welcoming all people. As St. Benedict says: “All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ” (Rule of St. Benedict, chapter 53).

Silence: We are committed to listening to God through the gift of a quiet internal spirit nurtured by the monastic environment.

Stewardship: We are committed to a reverence of all creation and the responsible use of our human gifts and goods.

Generativity: We are committed to fostering creativity, learning, and leadership within and outside of our monastic community.

Social Responsibility: We are committed to learn about communities outside our monastery and to respond in the spirit of St. Benedict as we strive to actively carry out the Social Teachings of the Church.

Direction Statements: Prior to the election of a new Prioress, the Community goes through a discernment process and creates Direction Statements which are intended to help guide them through the coming years.

  • We will continue developing our Mutual Blessings relationship with Hill-Murray School
  • We commit ourselves to dialogue and to the renewal of relationship in the monastic community.
  • We will empower others to live Benedictine values and traditions.
  • WE commit ourselves to supporting each member's mental, physical, and spiritual wholeness.

THE RULE OF ST. BENEDICT

The Rule of St. Benedict serves as an invitation to open our hearts to God. It summons us to recognize our responsibility in the world and the proper use of resources. Above all, the Rule reminds us of the fundamental value of living our lives in search and service of God, preferring nothing to the love of Christ.
